Save Linear Park!

Expressway ...Unnecessary!

City's Proposal:  "re-design" Linear Park by straigntening and widening the current path.

Undesired Result from the City's "re-design":

  • LESS SAFE - This will encourage bikes and electric scooters to travel faster on the path, endangering pedestrians.
  • LOSS OF TREES - About 50 mature trees will have to be cut down to accomplish the city proposal.

Restore our award-winning park!

The Cambridge Committee for Public Planting (CPP) sent a letter to the Cambridge City Manager and staff. The letter states the threat the Linear Park plan poses to the environment and how it doesn't support the UFMP. Read it for yourself.

This picture also shows why trying to speed up bikes on Linear Park makes no sense. There are too many places people have to slowdown right before and after this area.

On Monday Feb 24th local Cambridge community members met with State Senator Pat Jehlen and State Reps Dave Rogers and Steve Owens. Then the community presented on a few topics which include the new proposed Hi-Rail Tunnel, trees the MBTA cut down, and Linear Park. The slides are below.

Our ask is for residents all over the city to reach out to their representatives especially because of the Hi-Rail Tunnel and asbestos and the threat is possesses but also because in general the city is under siege due to tree loss. The MBTA connects all of these things, including Lineat Park since it owns the land. We are looking for your help in getting the reps to influence Monica Tibitts-Nutt, the Secretary of Transportation since she oversees the MBTA.

This is a recording of most of a public meeting with the CPP and the city. It is pretty long but the city admitted basically to hearing but ignoring the constituents because they know better. This even includes some of the experts landscape architects in the CPP.

The City's proposed "re-design" plan goes against its own Healthy Forest -> Healthy City design plans.
